Meaning
the surplus that leaves you something to give to somebody else
The story
The word does duty in a company's accounts and in a person's week: overskud is what is left when the necessary has been paid for. Danish job adverts ask for a candidate med overskud, meaning one with something still to give. The opposite, underskud, is said of people just as readily.
