Comparle is made and run by a private individual in the Netherlands — below, "the person running Comparle", the controller of the data described here. Questions or requests: contact@comparle.app.
Short version: you can play without an account, no data is sold, no ads, no third-party trackers.
What is stored, why, and for how long
| What | Why | How long | |---|---|---| | Player id — a random number your browser keeps | to find your own games and streak without an account | as long as you leave it in your browser; clear it and the link is gone | | Game results — score per round, gamble, word, date, edition | the game itself: score, streak, stats, pool standings | with the player id; with an account, until you delete the account | | Account — e-mail address, display name | logging in, your progress across devices, granting premium | until you delete the account at my.comparle.app/account | | Sessions — one login token per device | keeping you logged in | 90 days, or until you log out or delete the account | | Login links and codes | to let you in once | short-lived, then gone | | Pools — name, members, standings | making the pool work | until the pool is deleted | | Settings — language, theme, share-card style | keeping the game the way you like it | with your player id or account | | Review notes — only when review mode is on: your remark plus the on-screen context | to fix what you report | until the remark is resolved | | Technical events — errors, timestamp, the country the Cloudflare network sees | finding outages, slowing down abuse | briefly, and in aggregate | | Purchases — that this account has premium, and the reference to the Paddle transaction | granting your premium and withdrawing it on a refund | as long as the account exists; Paddle keeps its own records |
Comparle never receives or stores payment details. That runs entirely through Paddle.
Legal grounds
Your account, your games and your premium belong to the agreement you have with Comparle (contract). Technical events, abuse prevention and anonymous visit statistics rest on the legitimate interest of keeping the game working and safe. Review notes are something you send yourself.
Cookies
Three things, and none of them follows you around the web:
- `sess` — only if you log in: keeps you logged in (90 days).
- `lang` — remembers which edition you play (nl or en).
- Local storage in your browser — your player id, your settings, your game progress.
There are no advertising or tracking cookies. Visit statistics run through Umami, which works without cookies and is self-hosted on the owner's server (stats.comparle.app), and through Cloudflare Web Analytics, also cookieless. Both count pages and visits, not people.
Who processes it
- Cloudflare — hosting, database (Workers and D1), network, and sending the login mails. On servers in Europe and the global edge network.
- Paddle — the premium purchase. Paddle is the seller (merchant of record) and processes your payment and invoice details under its own privacy notice.
- Umami — visit statistics, self-hosted by the owner; not a third party.
Nobody else. No data is sold or shared for advertising.
Children
There is no age gate, and deliberately as little data is asked as possible: you can play without an account. If you are a parent or guardian and want your child's data removed, e-mail contact@comparle.app.
Your rights
You may see what is held about you, have it corrected, deleted or handed over, and object to its use.
- Deleting you do yourself, right away: my.comparle.app/account → delete account.
- For everything else: e-mail contact@comparle.app. You get an answer within a month.
If you disagree with how your request was handled, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl), or the one in your own country.
Changes
If something important changes, the date at the top moves and it is announced in the game.
