pochemuchka
Language: Russian · [pətɕɪˈmutɕkə] · Pronunciation: puh-chih-MOOCH-kuh
Meaning
a child who never stops asking why — a little questioner
The story
The name spread with What I Saw, a 1939 Soviet children's classic whose five-year-old narrator questions his way across the entire country, one why at a time. Russian parents use it with a tired sort of tenderness. Every English household recognises the species: a born questioner.
